Subject: Next meeting - November 30, 7pm at Pizzeria UNO Topic: Election of officers, discussion of possible updates to club structure, and open session discussing what we’ve been working on amateur radio wise
First off, please be patient with me as i channel Dan here for a bit (this isn’t going to be short;)) I wish I had his fine sense of humor to make this seem to go quicker!
Agenda item 1- Election of officers. First, a bit of background - when the club formed we only had a few members, and it was difficult to find folks for offices. As time has gone on we have a much larger club, with lots of talented and experienced folks… but it has been tough bringing new folks in to serve as officers. Stealing a page from LASAR and other groups, Donald and I started pulling together a slate of officers for folks to consider consisting of folks who volunteered, and those who “volunteered” with a little arm twisting;) . In other organizations this is typically done by a board of directors, executive committee, or other non-officer body who looks out for the long term good of the club (more on that later). As we don’t have this in our current structure, we went with a hybrid - a slate, AND the ability to nominate / vote for write-ins as it is critical that each club member has a say. You heard about this at the last meeting, and you’ll be seeing it again shortly.
As a refresher the slate is as follows:
President: Dan Gealt
Vice President: Mickey Correntto
Treasurer: Shawn Perry
Secretary: Bernie Capron
We will be holdings elections first, as it will be important for the new officers to give their perspectives on the next items (it’s not fair for us to change direction, then make them deal with it!) (I know, I’d be a lousy politician!).
Speaking of officers, I’ve been meaning to thank ALL the officers that have served to date (my apologies if I’ve forgotten someone… we’ve been around for 6+ years now!):
Donald James
Dan Gealt
Jeff Archambeault
Dave Oberhelman
Len Denner
Andre Wald
and of course the related positions:
License Trustee (Jami Olden and Charlie Reynolds (sk))
Warren County Radio Officers: David Gealt, Derrick Helms, Mike Mollica
Item 2 - potential changes to discuss… As noted above, as organizations get larger it is not abnormal for a non-officer “board” of one sort of another be added to help keep the organization going strong and weather sudden changes. A number of folks I respect highly suggested we look in to amending our structure in some way to have such a group, and charge them with making decisions the need to be made between meetings. This group would NOT include current officers (as they have enough to do!), but typically includes one or more of the outgoing officers (but not always).
I don’t have anything specific to recommend yet, other than that we talk about it, and IF we move in that direction we should do so making sure that any changes are in line with what would be required if we ever chose to become a 501(c)3 organization. I’d like to leave any specifics and “direction” to the incoming officers. I will help in any way I can (including not helping!) as per their wishes.
I look forward to seeing you all on November 30th; hopefully by then we will have recovered from eating too much food over Thanksgiving!
Speaking of which, best wishes for a happy and memorable Thanksgiving.
